This, our next trip, will begin Friday afternoon. We’re going around Lake Michigan… all the way around, but we’re not driving the official Great Lakes Circle Tour route or anything. The inspiration was some crazy hotel points deal that gets us multiple free nights for staying one night at each of four hotel chains. A couple of those chains have very few US locations… we found one in Michigan, but practically in Canada, so we’re renting a car and making a crazy road-trip out of it. Some of the markers on that map are hotels, some are restaurants that I purchased Groupons or Living Social deals for, and some are Tim Horton’s. And we’re cramming it all into one weekend(!), so if you’ve got any can’t-miss suggestions close to our route, let us know, soon, so we can figure out if we have enough time to fit it in.

We may just using the hotel deals as an excuse to make up for all the not-traveling that’s been happening, lately… a few weeks after this trip, we’re going to our fourth of four hotel chains with a short visit to Minneapolis… every time I think about it, That Dog jumps into my head.

Maybe we’re not taking advantage of these hotel deals in the easiest or most cost-effective way… and it does sort of feel like a vicious circle. But it’s turned this year into one full of travel, and it’s been great, so far. The plan is to use all the points for several nights of family vacation, probably in Texas sometime in November? We’ll probably cash in our airline miles and vouchers, too, because we might be traveling like it, but we are not made of money.

I just started working on this awesomely simple shawl on Sunday and I’m totally loving it already. It’s knit sideways until you have half of your yarn left and then you start your decreases. So simple, so prefect.

I’m knitting it with Tempted, Good Grrl in the Deviant Behaviour colorway (which I bought from The Loopy Ewe). It is super pretty; the perfect blend of purple, cranberry and black. I think it works just right for this pattern. I’m knitting this up for the SSK KAL #4 (knit-a-long), I love that these KALs have given me the opportunity to buy from and support other other indies vending at this retreat. I’m so looking forward to meeting all of them! I only have until the 15th to finish but that shouldn’t be a problem if I find time to work on it everyday.

The Kezia Fingerless Mitts pattern is now available for purchase on Ravelry!!! This amazing pattern is designed by a close friend of mine and all proceeds are being donated to the Fitzgerald Cancer Fund.

This pattern was named for Kezia Fitzgerald and is published in memory of her daughter Saoirse, who on December 13th, 2011 at only 18 months old, lost her battle against Neuroblastoma.
